Is Ooblets the Pik-Mon-Crossing game we’ve all been waiting for?
When the announcement details of the new indie title Ooblets landed in my inbox, I straightened my Ghibli print hair bow, set down my 3DS and paid attention. The Ooblets press release lauds Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon among its many inspirations for the new IP. As someone who grew up on these franchises, I don’t think there’s ever been a sentence written that has made me happier.
Over the past 20 minutes, I’ve watched the trailer 3 times. The visuals are similar to those in Overcooked (another one of my much loved games), but in a comforting palette of pleasing pastels that really pump up the “cute” factor.
The game appears to combine a host of gameplay elements from genre classics such as farming akin to Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, turn-based battles between creatures (Pokemon, I’m looking at you!), and even some Pikmin-esque critter herding.
The project is being published by Double Fine, and developed by the small team at Glumberland. The game is set to launch on PC and Xbox One in 2018 – and I know that I personally cannot wait!
If you’re itching to see all this cuteness for yourself, then check out the announcement trailer below.
